Clean Simple Eats is a brand dedicated to helping others build healthy habits that will last a lifetime. They offer macro-balanced meal plans, delicious recipes, best-tasting protein powders, and supplements made with clean and simple ingredients. With a mission to elevate lives through food and fitness, Clean Simple Eats is showcasing that clean eating can be simple, satisfying, and sustainable.Â

As the Controller at Clean Simple Eats, Brett Bunker manages financial transactions daily, playing a critical role in overseeing the company's financial health. After transitioning to NetSuite (ERP), the goal was to streamline financial processes, presenting challenges, especially in managing and reconciling transactions. Due to the complexity of their ecommerce operations, Brett faced the manual, time-consuming task of reconciling Shopify and Shop Cash transactions for accurate records in NetSuite.
While integrating NetSuite aimed to simplify the order-to-cash reconciliation process, challenges with Shopify and Shop Cash made it more complex. Manual reconciliation was error-prone, time-consuming, and stressful for the finance team. Brett spent excessive time reconciling transactions, impacting his work-life balance. Meeting month-end close deadlines became unsustainable due to the cumbersome process.
The turning point for Clean Simple Eats was seeking external help to address manual order-to-cash challenges and integrate Shopify and NetSuite seamlessly. After thorough evaluation, they chose Blue Onion for its efficient financial system integrations and modernization of order-to-cash reconciliation. Blue Onion, a data-driven software using machine learning, revolutionizes finance and accounting processes. It streamlined the merging of Clean Simple Eats’ transactions, ensuring accurate reconciliation.
The implementation of Blue Onion's solution led to profound improvements for Clean Simple Eats, specifically:
Pushing Shop Cash Deposits & Streamlining Their First Audit Â

Blue Onion was a crucial asset for Clean Simple Eats during their first-ever audit for fiscal year 2023. With the help of Blue Onion's Shop Cash feature to trace and allocate Shop Cash payouts to their original orders and tackle April-December's variances, the audit process was smooth and efficient. Brett successfully reconciled financial transactions with confidence, receiving positive feedback from auditors for being well-prepared.
“Over a week’s time, I pushed around 1,000 deposits into NetSuite.”
Order-to-Cash Reconciliation & Month-End Close Â

Along with increased accuracy and a quicker audit process, Brett experienced a significant reduction in the amount of time he was spending each month manually reconciling transactions, especially those regarding Shopify and Shop Cash. Brett shared how he was no longer spending countless hours to weeks on one singular month-end close only for the next month-end close to begin a week or so later, giving him hardly any leeway in between.Â
'Blue Onion helps give me comfort in areas like this so I can focus elsewhere."
